Vibrant Ferrofluid Images by Fabian Oefner

Ryan Nance November 3, 2017

We've seen Fabian Oefner's stunning work before. His colorful centrifuge and his high-speed photos of burning alcohol vapors left no doubt about his deftness as a photographer.

This project, injecting colors into a ferrofluid, is riotously gorgeous.  Ferrofluid is a liquid containing ferromagnetic particles that, when placed in a magnetic field becomes strongly magnetized.

Watch the making of video below and then check out the rest of the gorgeous set.

Living Things More Than 2,000 Years Old - Photos by Rachel Sussman

Ryan Nance April 16, 2014

Rachel Sussman‘s Oldest Living Things in The World Book is the result of her near decade long efforts, alongside biologists, which took her around the world and into some of the harshest and remotest climates to document living things that have lived continuously for more than 2,000 years.

The book, which is a passionate and insightful melding of art, science, and travelogue,  includes 124 photographs, 30 essays, infographics and forewords by Hans-Ulrich Obrist and Carl Zimmer, all centered around her quest to capture and share the scientific knowledge that we have discovered about these temporal giants.

There is also at the end of this post a great Creative Mornings talk that Sussman gave about the project while she was in the middle of it (Nov. 2010).

Ryan Nance January 22, 2014
Devereau Chumrau - www.devereauchumrau.com

Devereau Chumrau - www.devereauchumrau.com

This guest post is from actor Devereau Chumrau.

Devereau may be a native of Los Angeles, but it is also the time she spent in Ghana, in Europe and the UK, and largely as a student of the Asolo Conservatory in Florida, that has shaped her vision as an actor and as an artist. She has, all along the way, worked to develop her interest and experience in acting for the stage and for the screen.

Catch her show LOVECRAFT: Nightmare Suite opening Jan 31 at the Visceral Company in Hollywood.

Devereau:

There is nothing that can top a cute kid. These kids are so very cute.

Tricia Messeroux of Toddlewood Photography turns these adorable kids into the visions of the celebrities that we all know and recognize.

Mini Chiwetel! And a close runner-up are mini hosts Amy Poehler and Tina Fey.

Aerial Photos of Botswana's Wildlife by Zack Seckler

Ryan Nance January 17, 2014

Photographer Zack Seckler  flying in an ultra-light just a few hundred feet off the ground takes these awesome photos of the wildlife for his series Botswana.

He explains:  "it was like gliding over an enormous painting and being able to create brushstrokes at will. Flying 100 feet over herds of wild animals in a plane with no windows was an unforgettable experience. I was privy to views and perspectives that very few get to see. As a photographer, I was humbled. I’m always thinking about new ways to view the world. This series quite literally changed my view, showing me that simple changes can create profound results."
