4 - The Lincoln Tunnel at 190mph
I haven't driven through the Lincoln Tunnel for about 10 years, and that was in a UHAUL. So, yeah, this is a bit of wish fulfillment.
5 - A Robot That Prints Buildings Out of Sand
Three architecture students from Spain have developed the Stone Spray Project: a robot that uses CAD drawings to program a robot to 'print' buildings out of sand using a special binding agent. I would imagine that bonded sand would have remarkable compressive strength. Not so sure about tensile, shear and torsional strength. I am really interested to see if/when this moves past the proof of concept phase.

Tiltshift does this interesting thing where it both removes a lot of the distance between you and the subject and distorts it past recognition.

2 - Slacklining between two moving semis
A world champion slackliner attemps to traverse a line suspended between two moving Volvo (yes it's an ad) semi-trucks. Astounding.

I love the subtle touches: the attention to tone, the title-shift focus on the dew drops, the color. These macro photos from Russian amatuer Oleg Zhukov make me fall a little bit in love with the genre.

Brain Pickings has a great bit of coverage highlighting this phenomenal work from German poet and philosopher, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe: Theory of Colours.
Leave it to an artist and poet to contend the prevailing thoughts on light and color (Newtonian at the time) with a potent mix of what would now be seen as cognitive psychology, perceptual reasoning and poetry.
It is his descriptions of the psychological impact of color that is most arresting. Here are just a few samples. And a link to greater details on Brain Pickings.

2 - Outstanding Space Program Photos from Dan Winters
It doesn't take much to make the Space Shuttle Program seem amazing. But in all the years I've been following it, I think these photos from Dan Winters are the most beautiful and stylish. I want to compare them to the opinionated lens of Stanley Kubrik, but know that is an oversimplification. There is a dedication to form and observation in these photos, largely devoid of people.
With the Shuttle Program come to an end, there is both unmatched access to the technology and systems, but also an edge of preservation: capturing the truth of these early space explorations while they are still tangible.
Some of the most interesting images of the set are of the least technological: the glove that shows the work the hands inside of it have been doing; the vacuum-packed M&Ms.
