A world champion slackliner attemps to traverse a line suspended between two moving Volvo (yes it's an ad) semi-trucks. Astounding.

4 - Macro Photos
I love the subtle touches: the attention to tone, the title-shift focus on the dew drops, the color. These macro photos from Russian amatuer Oleg Zhukov make me fall a little bit in love with the genre.
5 - Goethe's Theory of Color
Brain Pickings has a great bit of coverage highlighting this phenomenal work from German poet and philosopher, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe: Theory of Colours.
Leave it to an artist and poet to contend the prevailing thoughts on light and color (Newtonian at the time) with a potent mix of what would now be seen as cognitive psychology, perceptual reasoning and poetry.
It is his descriptions of the psychological impact of color that is most arresting. Here are just a few samples. And a link to greater details on Brain Pickings.
“RED-YELLOW
As no colour can be considered as stationary, so we can very easily augment yellow into reddish by condensing or darkening it. The colour increases in energy, and appears in red-yellow more powerful and splendid.
All that we have said of yellow is applicable here, in a higher degree. The red-yellow gives an impression of warmth and gladness, since it represents the hue of the intenser glow of fire.”
“BLUE-RED
This unquiet feeling increases as the hue progresses, and it may be safely assumed, that a carpet of a perfectly pure deep blue-red would be intolerable. On this account, when it is used for dress, ribbons, or other ornaments, it is employed in a very attenuated and light state, and thus displays its character as above defined, in a peculiarly attractive manner.
As the higher dignitaries of the church have appropriated this unquiet colour to themselves, we may venture to say that it unceasingly aspires to the cardinal’s red through the restless degrees of a still impatient progression.”
1 - A 30-day New Zealand Timelapse
When a photographer moves to a new city, let alone to a new country, a stunningly beautiful country like New Zealand, it is an amazing opportunity for us, the viewers, to not just see the stunning scenery, but for us to experience the excitement of the photographer's discovery.
2 - Outstanding Space Program Photos from Dan Winters
It doesn't take much to make the Space Shuttle Program seem amazing. But in all the years I've been following it, I think these photos from Dan Winters are the most beautiful and stylish. I want to compare them to the opinionated lens of Stanley Kubrik, but know that is an oversimplification. There is a dedication to form and observation in these photos, largely devoid of people.
With the Shuttle Program come to an end, there is both unmatched access to the technology and systems, but also an edge of preservation: capturing the truth of these early space explorations while they are still tangible.
Some of the most interesting images of the set are of the least technological: the glove that shows the work the hands inside of it have been doing; the vacuum-packed M&Ms.
3 - Crazy Olympic Faces
People doing amazing things are not meant to be paying attention to how they look. And here is lots of proof of that.
And some from SadSportsFaces.tumblr.com
4 - Dark Side of the The Rainbow
It's a simple premise: playing an album as a new soundtrack. Well, here is The Wizard of Oz with The Dark Side of the Moon.
5 - The Evolution of the NYC Skyline
Remarkably developed in 1932. I want to see more... are there photos like this from other years?
1 - Nat Geo Traveller Photo Contest Winners
Nat Geo Traveler's 2012 Photo Contest winners.
2 - Light Painting Photo Mosaic
So, these light painting photo mosaics are beautiful. Also, the drawing in photos with light and then assembling into mosaics is about 3 levels of abstraction from the basic idea of photography. The artist Brian Matthew Hart has compiled quite a library of these phenomenal and laborious images.
3 - Video Projections Made Amazing with Cardboard Boxes
French artist Stéphane Malka put together this installation called BoomBox featured at the Arts Santa Monica, Barcelona. The simple and low-tech have amazing impact.
4 - Maniacal Laugh Supercut
5 - Wind Tunnel Acrobats
1 - Curiosity's Mars Landing Site in Pano
Remarkable hi-def 360-degree panorama of Mars Rover Curiosity's landing site.
3 - Secret Lives
Just love this photo series found on santlov.tumblr.com. A seemingly endless roll of funny and surprising action figures put in surprising situations. Great stuff.
4 - The Wizard of Meh: New From Pogo
Pogo makes a lot of fans very quickly with his catchy, clever, uncanny video mixing music making. Here is his latest. We've covered him before, and below are some of our favorites.

5 - Children lay 1.8 million LEGOs to create map of Japan
Over 5,000 people in 6 different regions collaborated to create a gigantic map of Japan, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of LEGO's introduction into Japan.

1 - An Airborne Humpback Whale
While working as a fishing guide in Tofino, British Columbia I had this humpback calf jump no more than 10 feet away from the boat. On our way in from fishing for halibut we noticed a few humpback whales playing in the distance and we stopped part way in to watch. It was quite an experience to see something completely airborn so close to the boat. The lucky thing was I got the photo I submitted a fellow boat also got a picture of the whale close to mid air and it was also all caught on video. Was an amazing day.
2 - Handcut Stop-motion Love Story
Technique and process have such a tremendous impact on the end result. The 7 months and 3,000 photos cut by hand required a different kind of commitment to decisions, big and small, than had the filmmakers simply popped the files into a program and rendered in a day.
