Animal Sculptures Made of Ocean Debris by Gilles Cenazandotti

Ryan Nance March 14, 2014

Artist Gilles Cenazandotti collects plastic debris washed ashore and creates a bestiary of recycled waste animals.

Cenazandotti:

"Impressed by everything that the Sea, in turn, rejects and transforms, on the beaches I harvest the products derived from petroleum and its industry. The choice of animals that are part of the endangered species completes this process. In covering these animals with a new skin harvested from the banks of the Sea, I hope to draw attention to this possible metamorphosis - to create a trompe l'oeil of a modified reality."

Lantern Pavilion Made of Recycled Water Bottles

Ryan Nance October 11, 2013

The Rising Moon dome was constructed for Hong Kong’s Lantern Wonderland 2013 festival by Daydreamers Design out just of recycled plastic bottles and LED lights.

The 65-foot-diameter pavilion makes use of 4,800 five-gallon water bottles fitted with LED lights.

Rising Moon is a temporary pavilion designed to serve as an anchor attraction during the Hong Kong Mid-Autumn Festival Lantern Wonderland 2013, held in Victoria Park from 14 September 2013 to 22 September 2013. It reinterpreted traditional paper lanterns with recycled plastic bottles and at the same time creating a Synthetic Moon, thus promoting the message of environmental protection.

Discarded Stuff becomes Stunning Sculptures

Ryan Nance April 5, 2013

Plastic stuff is seen as entirely disposable, barely worth anything, and certain not deserving of our attention or respect. Unless of course you listen to the Shinto thought that ALL objects have a spirit. Artist Sayaka Ganz seems to exhibit this thought in these provocative and beautiful sculptures made of discarded plastic.
