Russian artist Stanislav Aristov in his series “Спички” (Russian for “matchsticks”). He contorts the sticks as they burn, and then shoots the flame and smoke with a macro lens. He finishes the images in photoshop.

Aristov:

“I was playing with a pack of matches while I was deciding what to photograph for a competition. It was while I was watching the match that I began to think of how it represents life. There is the burnt part representing the past, the smoke of memories left and the untouched part of the match the future.”

Devastation of Bushfires Seen From Above

Melbourne architectural photographer John Gollings captured the devastation left by the Black Saturday fires.

From Wikipedia:

The Black Saturday bushfires were a series of bushfires that ignited or were burning across the Australian state of Victoria on and around Saturday, 7 February 2009. The fires occurred during extreme bushfire-weather conditions and resulted in Australia's highest ever loss of life from a bushfire; 173 people died and 414 were injured as a result of the fires.

5 - Timelapse Coincidentally Captures a Fire in Downtown Montreal

This was honestly my first attempt at making a time-lapse. I downloaded/figured out LRtimelapse (the trial version) in the afternoon then went out around sunset to shoot [...] Pan and zoom were added in post [...] To anyone who wants to try this, my best advice is to use a really sturdy (possibly weighed down) tripod. I wish I had one, because shooting with a GorillaPod in a bit of wind made the camera shake between frames. I used the AE warp stabilizer to try and smooth it out, but it still looks a bit weird and wobbly.
