Nan Goldin is an American photographer most noted for her photographs in the 1970's and 1980's of the post punk, New York city drug scene and gay subculture. Her most famous work, "The Ballad of Sexual Dependency" 1986, features photos between 1979 and 1986.
Her photographs, somewhat controversial, are documentaries of the underground pop culture and are most interesting because of how utterly raw they are in their depiction of her subject matter. It turns notions of beauty, ugliness, innocence and sex on it's head. It makes the viewer question how we project morality onto a snapshot.
This video is of an upcoming book of unseen photographs of children at once startling and sincere.
