Sumeru - Illustrations by Nick Pederson of Zen Buddhist training and practice

Liza Starman June 12, 2014

In this breathtaking series by artist and illustrator Nick Pederson, Sumeru is a body of work that illustrates the meditative 'mind-world' of Zen Buddhist training and practice. Each black and white image is symbolic of different stages of consciousness and perception on the road to enlightenment.

Stunning Black & White Iceberg Photos from Jan Erik Waider

Ryan Nance September 11, 2013

We've see the gorgeous blues, whites and greens of Jan Erik Waider's photos before. This set of shots focus on the form of the giant ice structures, putting them in a nearly abstract light.

Dynamic Black and White Underwater Photos by Hengki Koentjoro

Ryan Nance May 15, 2013

Seems a bit counter intuitive to me, but these black and white underwater photos from Indonesian photographer Hengki Koentjoro seem even more vibrant and dynamic than so much underwater photography I've seen. There is a sense of moment, presence and space that often gets obscured by the saturated tones in full color photography. Or maybe it's just this photographer's eye.
